What Happens When You Call

1. Tell us it’s an emergency. We’ll find the soonest time we can see you. If you’re new, we’ll text you the paperwork so you’re not filling out forms while you’re in the office.
2. Dr. Petrich takes a look. A quick X-ray and a small camera let her see what’s wrong, and she’ll show you on a screen so you understand what’s going on before anything is done.
3. Get relief, or a plan. If there’s time, we’ll take care of it that day. If not, you’ll leave knowing what’s wrong, what it’ll cost, and when we’ll fix it.

You’ll most likely see Dr. Taylor Petrich, our dentist here in Troy. When she’s out, Dr. Beau Moody, the practice owner, fills in.

Dental Emergencies We Treat in Troy

Toothaches and Infections

If a tooth kept you up last night, hurts when you bite, or has started to swell, call us. Dr. Petrich will find what’s causing it. If it needs a root canal, we do those here in the office. If you need a prescription to get you through, we can call it in to your pharmacy.

Broken, Cracked, or Chipped Teeth

A broken tooth usually means two appointments and a few weeks with a temporary crown. Here, it often doesn’t. A small chip can sometimes be fixed with a filling the same day. If you need a crown, we scan the tooth, design the crown on screen, and our CEREC machine makes it right here while you wait. You go home with your final same-day crown. We can do the same for bridges.

Lost Crowns and Fillings

If a crown or filling comes out, especially on a front tooth, call us. We’ll check the tooth underneath and see if the crown can go back on. If it can’t, we may be able to make you a new crown that same day, so you’re not walking around with a gap or a temporary.

Knocked-Out Teeth

If an adult tooth gets knocked out, call us right away. Time matters here. The steps below will help on your way in.

Why a Dental Emergency Shouldn’t Wait

We’d rather see you on a Thursday than have you spend the weekend in pain. We’re open Monday through Thursday and the first Friday of the month, and closed on weekends, so a tooth that flares up late in the week can turn into a long wait. Call early, and Dr. Petrich can treat it or give you something to get you through. We also don’t do extractions on Fridays, because we’re not here over the weekend if something comes up.

Swelling is the other reason not to wait. If it keeps getting worse, it can turn into a hospital visit.

After Hours and Weekends

Tell us your name, your phone number, what’s going on, and that you’re a patient at our Troy office, and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. What to Do Before You Get Here

• Knocked-out tooth: rinse it gently without scrubbing the root, and keep it in a small container of milk or a tooth preservation kit.
• Swelling: hold a cold compress on the outside of your face for 15 minutes at a time.
• Broken tooth: rinse with warm water, and if it’s bleeding, press gently with clean gauze.

Paying for an Emergency Visit

Nobody wants a surprise bill on top of a toothache, so here’s what to expect.

With insurance: we’re in network with most PPO plans, and we’re a Delta Dental Premier provider. We don’t take HMO plans or state insurance. Have your member ID handy when you call, and we’ll check your coverage.

Without insurance: the emergency exam and X-rays are $133. Once Dr. Petrich knows what’s wrong, we’ll tell you what treatment costs before we do anything.

Our membership plan: if you don’t have insurance, ask about it. It’s $332 a year per person, starting the day you sign up. It covers your exams, X-rays, two cleanings and any emergency exams that year, plus 20% off other work. A first cleaning visit without insurance runs over $400, so the plan can pay for itself right away.

We also send photos of your tooth with your claim, so your insurance sees exactly what we saw. More on insurance and payment.

After the Emergency

Once the tooth is fixed, life gets back to normal. You can chew on both sides, sleep through the night, and get back to work or school without thinking about it. You’ll also have a dentist in Troy who already knows your mouth. Dr. Petrich can keep an eye on that tooth at your regular checkups and cleanings, which is how small problems get caught before they turn into emergencies.
